I’m more interested in the validation of visual communicatable photographic experience, than un-communicatable, “fashionable” ideas.

I dont feel charitable to the propoganda that gender plays any role in the quality of photography.Photographic Thatcherism. For too long QUALITY has been held ransom to gender politics, one sees it in the grant system and throughout public institutions. No-one ever questions this..just the opposite I’m afraid. “Womens’ photography” has been supported, nurtured and promoted, as if by one’s gender, one automaticlly created quality work! What absolute rubbish. Everyone looses, and especially photography.
STOP PRESS!!!
Who would have ever thought that Julie Ewington (from the Qld Art Gallery) would have chosen Anne Ferran as this years winner for the Ulrick/Schubert Award?? FEMMINISTS around the world should fill their chests with righteous pride at this extrodinary talent.INCREDIBLE!! (but true) and soooo deserved.
