Chez James Ricketson after a nite of friends and conversation. Stimulating. James has liberated his filmaking and travels the world with digi cam. I have had a day of great chat here at Palm Beach, the backdrop of which has been Brazils’ Canivale and the relentless beat of samba .Doc. filmaking and photography have the same wonderfull “applications” to PEOPLE and the joys of learning from the world. We have dicussed my up-coming trip to Bougainvile at length and James’ idea of doing something on photographers.
So come on benefactors! Buy an original Jonny Lewis print and get me working in Bougainville! The “arc of instability” as it is called, needs documenting..lets meet the neighbours! “Lukim yu”

I am half way there with my budget of $12.000 AUD, and continue to search for benefactors re my up-coming trip to Bougainville. Many thanks to all who have supported me thus far in this venture.Kodak will be providing a generous discount for 500 rolls of film stock, and Maxwells’ were wonderfull yesterday.
Last night met up with Father Gary Shearston, whose music comes from the the very soul and traditions of Australia. Much blessed with dinner and good conversation, Chez Martin Sharp. Those ideals of a Yellow House in the sun will outlive us all. Nuthing like friends.To-nite dinner with Fitzroy and John Mac.
Pre-purchase an original Jonny Lewis print and get me working in Bougainville. Lets meet the neighbours. “lukim yu”!!

Many thanks to Benefactors for their contributions. To-day monies were deposited. Still a ways to go. Maxwell’s (Optical Industries) to-day were especially supportive (in kind) and in particular Mr. John Swainston, Maxwell’s Managing Director. One can always “tell” a company by the attention and courtesy of its staff. They were all warm.
Remember punters, pre-purchase an original Jonny Lewis photograph and support the Bougainville trip. Meet the “neighbours” and help continue this long term photography project on the region. Big thanks to Fred Smith..
“mi wokim snap bilong yu?” ON ON and “lukim yu”…

Canberra, and still on the Bougainville track. To-day off to visit with Fred Smith whose beautifull songs and music reflect his time spent on Bougainville and elsewhere in Melanesia. Latter in the day will meet with ANU “academic” re forthcoming trip. Excited, tho anxious about budget. YOU can pre-purchase an original Jonny Lewis print (20″x24″) of your choice, and help finance photographing for the next 5 months. This continues my work started in East Timor, and is a long term project concerned with our neighbours, and the so called “arc of instability”.Please contact me for details and get me working again in tropical climes. Thanks. ON ON.

Canberra (chez Dave) my friend from East Timor’s home.I’m awaiting the return of ANU Bougainvillian “academic” re the possible impremateur for my work there. No monies in bank despite assurances of benefactors! Still optimistic, and found, to-day in Goulburn, a cheap mossie dome.Visit the Centre for Cross Cultural Research, ANU. Must link up with Fred Smith, a writer and performer of beautifull songs (and Bougainvillian traveller) “Bagarap Empires” remains a most important Australian CD.This week off to Sydney and continue my budget search.
